For years I thought my poor posture couldn't be fixed...

I just thought it was genetic and that it was something I’d always be stuck with for the rest of my life…

But looking back I realize now that it had much more to do with my environment and lifestyle than genetics…

As a kid growing up in the 80’s, I basically started typing on a computer from age 6.

I was part of the dial-up AOL internet generation, which meant being able to play games and chat with my friends online. This was the start of my big-time gaming addiction.

Then when high-speed internet arrived in the early 2000s, I was well and truly addicted to playing online video games.

In college, I still played online games but I got super sucked into the screen due to the amount of studying and paper-writing I was doing.

It was around then when I started feeling self-conscious about the shape of my body…

I noticed my posture wasn’t good, and I hated looking in the mirror.

Decades of neglecting my posture had wreaked havoc on my body both physically and mentally.

It's only now that I realize the damage my bad posture was doing to my body…

To make things worse, when I began working my 9-5 job I become less active.

One of my first jobs after college was working at a law firm in a sedentary admin role.

I literally spent all day every day on a computer and the only exercise I got was going to the photocopier.

During my teens and early twenties, I frequently went to chiropractors and physical therapists for my posture.

And I thought I was getting the right treatments…

But I didn’t realize at the time how much bad advice I was actually getting. 

The worst bit was none of these treatments would ever stick...

But then I found someone who I thought could really help me...

I came across something called the Rolf Method of Structural Integration.

This was publicized as the most advanced form of posture improving massage in existence...

I knew I was in the right place as these guys were OBSESSED with fixing posture.

Their approach made it obvious to me that you CAN improve your posture and open up the body…

And after the first session, I was like “wow!”...

I can breathe better... I can stretch better…

It was such a relief for me…

After all these years of pain and embarrassment from my bad posture, I thought I finally had the answer…

It Didn’t Last

After a few sessions, it felt like I was losing the gains I’d made from the posture sessions.

Desperately wanting to keep my posture gains, I kept going back for more sessions.

It was an amazing feeling because this time I thought I’d truly found a way to fix my posture.

Riding this high, I decided to become a Rolfer myself…

I figured I could help myself by having a better understanding of how to fix my posture…

Plus it was one of the first steps I took to pursue my passion of becoming an expert at fixing and building the human body.

So I went ahead and got the certification after more than 700 hours of training.

But despite learning these techniques for myself, and after I started working with clients to help them improve their posture, I discovered that…

No Matter How Much I Tried, 

It Still Wouldn’t Stick

I even sought out the most advanced Rolfers to see if they could fix me, but none of them were able to either....

So after a couple of months, I was right back to where I was before...

I was never able to make my posture gains stick...

Never able to get rid of the pain...

And never able to straighten my back and look “normal”...

Instead, I continued to live my life constantly hunched over.

I found myself avoiding going out or doing the things I loved like hockey, cycling, and running…

Jogging had become so painful and my breathing was always impaired.

And the bottom line was this: I was TIRED of it.

Tired of looking at myself in the mirror and hating the shape of my body…

Tired of having to take painkillers to ease the pain...

Tired of not being able to sleep at night due to the constant discomfort I was in...

The natural curvature of the mid and upper back is called kyphosis. 

When people talk about having a hunchback, they are usually talking about having a lot of curvature in the mid and upper back (meaning TOO MUCH kyphosis).

This is not considered very attractive and can contribute to a negative self-image. It also negatively affects your ability to move and breathe well. 

Improving your hunchback will help you look better, feel more confident and it can also improve your physical performance and overall energy levels.

Is it really possible to improve hunchback posture?

To improve your hunchback posture, you need to understand one thing:

Your posture is the result of muscle Activity or Inactivity

If the right muscles work, your posture looks good. If the right muscles don't work, your posture doesn't look good. It's that simple.

There are some cases where someone has REALLY severe hunchback posture where the bones have actually gotten misshapen, but that's pretty rare, and it usually takes decades for things to get that bad. 

Even then, doing the right exercises can halt the progression of the hunchback.

Can you fix hunchback posture permanently?

A lot of people will try to sell you a "permanent" fix for Hunchback Posture.

Unfortunately, their fixes don't work the way you want them to.

As we covered earlier, hunchback posture is the result of muscle activity. If you train your muscles to activate properly, you can improve your posture over time.

BUT if you stop training your muscles, don't pay attention to your posture, and slouch all day long - you're going to end up with hunchback posture again!

Yoga's great for a lot of things. But one thing we've seen over and over again is that yoga can really imbalance your upper back posture and put you into BIG kyphosis.

Many schools and instructors don't look at the long-term effect of curling the mid and upper spine constantly. 

And they don't balance it out with focused and detailed training in the opposite direction.

The purpose of this step is to train your abdominal muscles to control the curvature of your lower / mid-back.

So when you proceed to the next step of reversing your hunchback, your LOWER/MID BACK will stay still while your UPPER BACK (where your hunchback is) changes.

This part also includes our specially selected, high-impact breathing exercises.

The purpose of this step is to directly work on reversing your hunchback.

A “hunchback”, to be clear, is an overly hunched UPPER BACK.
